Nigeria ยท Meeting in person
A Lagos first meeting that leaves room to leave
Agree on one public plan, separate journeys and a finish time before a pleasant chat becomes an all-day commitment.

Start here
Make the first plan small enough that either adult can decline an extension. Agree on a populated public meeting place, check its current details yourself and keep independent transport. A change of location is a new invitation, not an automatic part of the original yes.
Choose the meeting you can actually make
Imagine that you have been chatting for a week and the proposed Saturday now includes lunch, a visit to a friend's home and an evening event. You may like the person while wanting only lunch. Narrow the invitation before arranging the journey: one place, one activity and a time to finish.
Lagos is not one interchangeable neighbourhood, and this guide does not rank areas as safe or supply live traffic estimates. Check your own route, the venue's current opening arrangements and a realistic return plan. A famous location is not a substitute for considering the actual meeting.
Keep the return journey yours
You do not need to share a home address to accept a public meeting. If someone offers a lift, you can appreciate the offer and still arrive separately. Keep a backup option within your own means; an affordable short date can be more workable than a lavish plan that makes leaving depend on the other adult.
Tell someone you trust the plan you have actually agreed, rather than every private detail of the conversation. Any location sharing should be your choice and directed to a trusted person, not a test imposed by a new match.
Treat an extension as a fresh decision
At the end of the meeting, ask yourself whether you want more time, have the energy for it and can still get home independently. All three matter. You may finish a good date on time. You can also reject a last-minute private-location suggestion without proving that the person is dangerous.
If the response to a simple boundary is pressure, repeated bargaining or anger, end the discussion and use the exit you planned. You are deciding what you will do, not conducting an investigation into someone else's motives.
Follow up on the actual experience
A useful next message can name what you enjoyed and whether you would like another meeting. Avoid promising a whole weekend because the first hour was enjoyable. Equally, if you do not want another date, a clear short message is kinder than arranging something you already intend to avoid.
Use this in your own words
A bounded invitation you can adapt
- Before
I would enjoy meeting on Saturday. I can do one public stop and will need to leave by the time we agree.
- Travel
Thanks for offering a lift. I will arrange my own journey and meet you there.
- If plans grow
I am keeping to the original plan today. We can discuss another outing separately.
- After
I enjoyed our conversation about ____. Would you like to plan another short meeting?
These are optional prompts, not a score or diagnosis. Adapt them to your situation. This tool does not submit or store answers.
Questions you might still have
Is this a list of safe Lagos venues?
No. Venue conditions, opening hours and transport change. Check the actual place and route; no location guarantees another person's behaviour.
Can I leave a date that seems fine?
Yes. Keeping your agreed finish time does not require an unpleasant incident or an excuse.
Should I accept transport to avoid seeming rude?
You can thank someone and keep your own transport. Courtesy does not require sharing your address or losing control of your departure.
