Two good dates? Talk before deleting apps
Start here
Ask what you both want before changing your apps. Try, 'Are we each free to date other people, or do we want to date only each other?' If you agree, decide what to do with your profiles and when. Turning an app off is your own choice; it does not make a promise for the other person.
After two good Sundays, a phone on the bench can feel like a bigger question than it is. The question is about your agreement, not the icon on either phone.
Talk about people before phones
'I like seeing you' is not the same as 'we are dating only each other.' Ask one plain question and allow a plain answer. Either adult may want more time.
If they say they are still meeting others, decide whether that works for you. Do not delete an app in the hope that the gesture will change their answer.
Example conversation
Sample: a talk after a weekend walk
This invented exchange shows a direct question without a demand to show a phone.
This is an invented example.
- Tari
- โI like our weekends. Are we free to date other people, or would we both like to date only each other?โ
- Leah
- โI would like to date only you. I have not changed my app yet.โ
- Tari
- โI want that too. Let us each choose how to pause or close our profiles this week.โ
They agree in words first. Each handles their own account without turning a phone into proof.
A break, a hidden profile and deletion are different choices
You can stop opening an app for a week. You can check whether your service lets you hide or pause a profile. You can also choose to close an account. Services handle visibility and data differently, so read that app's current settings before you act.
None of these actions proves someone is dating only you. You cannot see every account or private choice from one phone screen. Ask about the agreement directly.
Give an agreement clear edges
If you both want to date only each other, say when that begins and what it means: no new dates with others, or something different that both of you understand. You can also agree to talk again after exams rather than rush today.
Keep it free of phone checks, passwords or tests. Trust grows through words and actions that match over time, not by inspecting a device.
Make space for a different answer
One person may want exclusivity now; the other may be unsure. Thank them for being clear and choose whether to keep dating under that answer.
You may pause your own app even if the other adult does not. Name it as your choice, not as a silent rule they must follow.
Let the agreement belong to the two of you
A friend might ask, 'Have you deleted your apps yet?' You can say, 'We are talking about what we want.' Your friends do not need a screenshot or a label before you are ready.
Keep your studies, friendships and weekend plans alongside the new connection. Dating only each other is a choice about dates, not a request to give up your own life.
Choose from the answer
Choose the app step after the answer
- You both agree to date only each other
State when it starts, then review each app's settings and choose your own account step.
- One of you is unsure
Keep talking or wait. Do not treat app deletion as an answer.
- They demand your password or a phone check
Do not hand over access. You can end the conversation or relationship.

Sources and what they can tell us
The weekend conversation and suggested account steps are Afrolu editorial examples. The Hotline supports open talk, equal choices and privacy; eSafety describes that app privacy features vary and advises using controls that fit your situation. Questions you may still have
Should I delete an app after two dates?
Only if you want to. Two dates do not create an automatic agreement.
Is pausing a profile the same as deleting it?
Usually no, but exact controls vary by app. Check the service's settings.
Can I ask them to delete theirs?
You can ask for a shared agreement. Each adult decides what to do with their account.
Do they have to prove it with their phone?
No. Do not use device access as a trust test.
