App choices ยท A weekend abroad
Keep your weekend before you tap delete
Start here
You can put the app down for a weekend without deleting your account to prove anything. Try: 'I am offline today. We can talk on Sunday about what dating only each other would mean.' If you want to leave an app for your own reasons, use its account settings and check any paid subscription. Removing the phone icon alone may leave an account active.
It is Saturday morning. You have plans with friends, but a match in another country asks for a screenshot showing your app is gone before Sunday's call. Your weekend is a real part of your life. Give yourself time to decide what you want before touching an account setting.
Take a break that you choose
Turn off alerts or put the phone face down while you go to the plans you already made. A quiet Saturday gives you room to think; it is not a promise to the match and it is not a test they can score.
If you want to tell them, keep it short: 'I am taking today offline. I can speak Sunday afternoon.' You do not need to send a screen recording, your password, or a photo of your settings.
Ask what they really want to agree on
Deleting an account, stopping new matches, and dating only each other are three different choices. Ask, 'Are you asking to be exclusive, or are you asking me to remove an app?' Listen to the answer before agreeing to either one.
You may enjoy the long-distance calls and still want to meet in person before promising exclusivity. Say that plainly. The other adult can decide whether that pace works for them too.
If they say a screenshot is the only proof they will accept, you can refuse. A phone image cannot replace trust or a clear agreement. Repeated pressure is a reason to slow down or end the conversation.
Example conversation
A Saturday that stays her own
This invented exchange shows a reply to an app-proof request before a weekend call.
This is an invented example.
- Wanjiku
- โI am spending Saturday with friends. I am not deleting my account as proof, but I can talk Sunday about what we both want.โ
- Match
- โI hoped deleting it would show that we are serious.โ
- Wanjiku
- โI hear that. Let us say what serious means to each of us first. I will choose what to do with my account after that talk.โ
Wanjiku does not argue over a screenshot. She keeps her plan and asks for words that both adults can understand.
Use the control that matches your decision
If you only want quiet, pause notifications. If the app offers a hide or pause option, read what others can still see before using it. Keep the account if you are not ready to leave.
If you decide to leave, find the account deletion steps inside that app's current help or settings. Tinder and Bumble say that uninstalling their phone apps does not delete their accounts. Do not assume other services work the same way.
Check a paid plan separately. Deleting a profile and stopping billing can be different tasks. Do them because they fit your choice, not because someone demands a screenshot before Sunday.
Choose from the answer
Choose the next tap for yourself
- You want a quiet weekend
Mute alerts and keep your other plans. You can answer after the time you named.
- You want to discuss exclusivity
Ask what each person will do, and when. Let that agreement come before an app gesture.
- You want to leave the app
Follow that app's current account steps and check any subscription separately.

Does a deleted app mean we are exclusive?
No. A clear conversation tells you what each adult has agreed to.
Must I send a screenshot?
No. You can keep your device and account settings private.
Can I take one weekend away from the app?
Yes. Mute alerts or put the phone aside, then return when you choose.
Does uninstalling close an account?
Do not assume so. Tinder and Bumble say uninstalling their phone apps does not delete their accounts.
