Fast affection ยท A real travel cost
Slow the promise before you buy the trip
Start here
Do not buy a ticket or accept a costly one because a new match says the relationship is certain. Say what pace works for you: โI like talking, but I am not booking a visit now. Let us keep getting to know each other.โ A caring person can hear that. Repeated pressure, guilt or requests for money after your answer are reasons to pause contact and seek support from someone you trust.
An intense message can make a distant person feel suddenly close. That feeling is real; it is not enough information to make a large travel, money or work decision. Look at how the person responds when you set a small, reasonable limit.
Notice the pace without trying to diagnose them
The Hotline lists very early soulmate labels, overwhelming compliments, costly gifts such as travel, and communication overload as possible signs of love bombing. Any one of these can have another explanation. The useful question is whether you can say no or slow down without being punished.
A new match may speak warmly and still respect your time. Watch the pattern: do they listen to your answer, or do they turn every work break into another demand?
Keep the cost in your own hands
A visit can affect leave from work, travel money and where you will stay. Make those decisions only when you have enough information and genuinely want the plan. Do not send passport images, work records, account access or money to make a new person feel trusted.
If someone offers to pay for everything, you may decline. A gift does not buy your time, body, location or agreement. If you choose to meet later, make a plan you can leave and tell a trusted person where you intend to be. Those are Afrolu's practical suggestions, not a safety guarantee.
Even if a booking has been made without asking you, you can still refuse the trip. Their spending does not transfer the decision to them.
Example conversation
The trip that can wait
In this invented exchange, adult professionals Esi and Mark have spoken online for three weeks and live in different countries.
This is an invented example.
- Mark
- โYou are the one for me. Book next Friday and I will sort everything when you arrive.โ
- Esi
- โI am not booking a visit now. I want more time to know each other, and I keep my work plans.โ
- Mark
- โIf you cared, you would prove it.โ
- Esi
- โI have answered. I am going to pause this conversation.โ
Esi does not need to prove affection by paying for travel after her limit was dismissed.
Say one limit in words you can keep
Try: โI can talk on Sunday, but I cannot answer during work and I am not planning travel yet.โ You do not have to offer a different date if you are not ready.
Then observe the reply. An answer that accepts the pace gives you room to learn more. A reply that calls you unloving, threatens to leave, or keeps asking for a booking is information about the pressure you are facing.
Choose from the answer
What happened after you slowed down?
- They accept the limit
Keep talking only if you want to; make no travel promise yet.
- They keep asking for a ticket
Do not book. Repeat the limit once or step back.
- They demand money or private records
Stop sharing, keep the messages if needed, and consider the platform's report controls.
Bring another person into the decision
If you feel confused after many urgent messages, pause the chat and describe the actual request to someone you trust. They can help you hear what was asked without deciding for you.
If threats, monitoring or demands for money appear, stop sending private details and use the platform's block or report controls if appropriate. Local support routes differ by country; the linked sources are general guidance, not local emergency contacts.
If you already spent money on a trip, pause new payments. Check cancellation terms with the company that took the booking; a past cost is not a reason to keep a plan you no longer choose.

Questions you may still have
Is fast affection always love bombing?
No. Look at pressure and respect for your answer rather than applying a label from one message.
What if they already bought a ticket for me?
You can still say no to travel. A gift does not create a debt of access or intimacy.
Should I test them with a fake delay?
No test is needed. State your real pace and notice whether it is respected.
Can I keep talking after saying no to a visit?
Yes, if you want to and the conversation remains respectful.
